BAMA Neighborhoods
At the start of the pandemic, BAMA’s goal was to strengthen neighbor-to-neighbor connections. We wanted to increase the “let’s look out for each other” factor. We also worried that people, and areas of town, without strong connections in place would be disproportionately impacted by the crisis. Social isolation loomed as a big stressor.
BAMA attempted to organize Brattleboro into neighborhoods so that everyone would be included and no one would be left out. When drawing lines we held an equity lens and considered historical neighborhood connections, topographical features, and connecting a diversity of resources. These are not “official” neighborhoods and boundaries drawn are meant only to be useful. Please choose the neighborhood that you feel the most connected to based on your neighborly connections.
The original model had one or more “Neighborhood Point Person” (NPP) for each neighborhood. The NPPs helped foster neighbor-to-neighbor connections for support and community building. As the pandemic has worn on, this was not sustainable for all areas of town. Neighborhoods have different levels of on-going mutual aid organizing. If you are new to the BAMA network and want help connecting in your neighborhood, reach out to us. We can help you.
