Neighbors listening to neighbors.

Join the ConversationCorps.
Connect with elders living alone in our community, inspire meaningful conversations and record the rich oral histories they have to share.
With the help of our friends at Vermont Folklife Center (VFC), Brattleboro residents are reaching out to their neighbors by phone through the “Listening in Place” project. Join ConversationCorps to be paired with a community member who could use a phone call during this time of social and physical distancing. Interviewers and narrators partake in bi-weekly calls to check in, tell stories and get to know one another. With both parties’ permission, VFC will archive these stories for future Vermonters.
This initiative also collaborates with the Water Way(s) project, dedicated to capturing the oral histories of displaced residents who lived along the Whetstone Brook prior to Hurricane Irene.

Reach out to neighbors living alone or receive a call from a neighbor. Complete this form and get connected with the kind and dedicated folks forging these connections, become a volunteer, or simply reach out for more information. ConversationCorps coordinator Anna Kayes and her core team will make an initial call to you before matching you up with a conversation buddy. We hope you’ll join us!
